January 2019
Happy New Year GRD!
Welcome to the first edition of the Grimsby Roller Derby newsletter! This year we want to focus on full transparency, the committee have lots of exciting ideas and plans for Grimsby Roller Derby and we feel a monthly newsletter would be a great way to communicate our progress.
Throughout January the marketing team will be re-branding the league and preparing the advertising for our first intake of the year in March. The advertising campaign for the intake will need all your support to push and share both online and around the town. The committee have decided that this year the intakes will only be held on a Sunday and new skaters will only be invited to join Tuesday training after two months.
The Grim Reavers are going to Champs; dates have now been confirmed! Please ensure you have these dates in your calendar; we hope to see some non-skating members cheering the Reavers on the side-line, especially at our home game on Sunday 19th May 2019 – we will need GRD members to volunteer on this date.
The Brothers Grim have one game lined up in the year, but marketing will be working with the coaching team to inform all brothers of any upcoming scrims or bootcamps. Instead, this year there will be multiple co-ed team scrims – We look forward to a fresh start for the wolfpack.
In Other News
Our head coach, Kirsty Douglas, is being interviewed by Grimbarians this month to discuss how she has spread her positivity by her dedication to our roller derby league. This is a huge achievement as we all know that Kirsty is the heart and soul of GRD – You are an inspiration to us all!
President Comments
Imagine the possibilities. 2019. The year of FOTC.
Fundraising – Applying for funding, buying new starter kit and equipment
Officials – Building an official crew, training, recruiting and nurturing.
Togetherness – Wellbeing of our league, team building and training
Community – Recruitment, marketing, active and support local community and charity.
This year the committee hope to build a stronger foundation for GRD by focusing on these four sections of growth. The committee have been working hard since elections and I am thrilled with the productivity of its members and that of the league. Its a new year and it will be what we, GRD, make it.
Here’s to an amazing year together!

Our February calendar is looking very full. The Grim Reavers have their first game of the year on Sunday 3rd February, it will be a closed scrim with Durham mixed. It will be Durham Rolling Angels and Durham Roller Derby’s first ever mixed game so it’s a huge deal for them! On Sunday 10th February, our guest coach is yet to be confirmed. As soon as we know more we will let you know; if the session is cancelled, training will still be on as usual. Please also don’t forget we will be hosting the park run on Saturday 16th February, thank you to those who have volunteered to help and good luck to those who are running!
