March 2019
Hello newbies!
Welcome to our monthly GRD newsletter!
This newsletter is how we celebrate and communicate our progress and achievements internally at GRD. We hope you are settling in at our Sunday training sessions and are as excited as us to start your roller derby journey!
We want to say a big thank you to all the support the league has given this month. We had two successful intakes, supported Lincolnshire Thugly Ducklings with their T1MS game and cheered oh so loudly at The Grim Reavers championship game!
We have a quiet April coming up, during this time we will be preparing for the first Brothers Grim game of the year and the Grim Reavers’ third Championship game against Hull Deathrow.

The York Minxters Roller Derby
The Grim Reavers had their second British Championship this month against York Minxters Roller Derby. The Minxters put up an incredible fight and were winning throughout the game, until the last 15 minutes when our Grim Reavers started to pull back and secured a nail biting win!
A big thank you to everyone that came to cheer us on and our GRD officials for doing us proud!

Intakes
We had two very successful intakes this month with great attendance. We are now training up budding new Brothers, Reavers and refs; as well as, Eve Gormley, Lady MacDeath, joining us from Team GB roller derby juniors.

Lincolnshire Thugly Ducklings
Our home venue hosted Lincolshire Thugly Ducklings’ T1MS game. We had our cake and merch stall at the event, some of our league members were part of the Non Skating Official team and we were able to cheer on our coach, KP!
It was a great day packed with excellent roller derby!

GRD Lexicon
When you, the blocker, tactically hold an opposing blocker at the back of the wall, “GOAT” should be called to notify all the team that they need to contain the blocker to take advantage of the pack. This means it will be easier for the jammer to push the remaining blockers out of the engagement zone.
