October 2019
Ho Ho Ho COUNT Down
Firstly, welcome to our new intake!
We hope you are enjoying roller derby so far and you have enjoyed your first couple of training sessions. We cannot wait to see you progress into a skater, ref or NSO within the league!
Big thank you to all those that helped out with making the intake a success; from flyering to attending and putting a big smile out on the day!
The committee have decided to open up the remaining two Sundays of November to anyone who would like to join. These training sessions will be ran as normal with the new 3 hour structure.
October started (a bit wild) with our annual awards night. Big congratulations to all those who got awards and special mentions. Even if you didn’t receive anything on the night, we really appreciate everyones hard work and commitment this year to make the league bigger and stronger!
The new committee have been working hard behind the scenes this month with hand overs and preparing for the new year ahead. We plan to have a full league meeting in January (after a well deserved Christmas break), more details will announced closer to the time.
Thank you all to those who answered our feedback survey. We have reviewed and actioned any concerns accordingly – this will be communicated to you within the league meeting. We really value your feedback and we want every member of the league to be heard, we have therefore opened a google form here; this so you can anonymously write any (constructive) suggestions, concerns or compliments. You can also contact anyone on the committee (your captains, coaches, heads of commitee etc.).
A full list of the new committee has been included in this newsletter.
October
GRD out and about
TNT, Gorgonrola and Money Shot headed across the Humber to ref in Hull.
Lady MacDeath played her first adult game for The First Ladies at the 7ft Cup in Sheffield and got to play alongside Lily Gaskell!
Murder Death Kill won MVP at the Baby Elephant opener and Tyranhitar played in the OTA game in Coventry.
Our GRD team travelled to York to play the York Monsters in their first OTA game as a team and took home a win. Grimsby Roller Derby 268 – York Monsters 68
Chilli, Murder Death Kill and Pony travelled to Mansfield to play in the WFTDA scrim hosted by Bombinos Junior Roller Derby, along with TNT and Money Shot who also reffed the event.
And finally, some of our Reavers guest skated for HARD Bees at Humber Struck in Hull.
Ho Ho Ho Down
Don’t forget it’s our final game of the year on Sunday 1st December for our Christmas Ho Ho Ho Down. We are still in need of raffle prizes donating and cakes being baked for the stall, please let Peter Coultas know if you can help out. There are also still NSO positions available if you want to volunteer please let Kirsty Keogh know.
Don’t forget to share the event over your social media and spread the word around the town. Please also invite any friends to the facebook event (especially roller derby friends!).
There are still skater tickets available if you haven’t got yours yet! Buy them here. The spectator tickets are cheaper online at £4 per ticket, instead of £5 on the door.
Presidents Comments
Three things;
First, October has been a busy time for GRD. We have secured next years calendar (subject to change due to champs), planning the focus for 2020 and strengthening the working structure of GRD. Im so pleased with the productivity of this years committee and everyone is working hard to make GRD better for all.
Second, it can be hard to pull yourself out of bed in these darker months. We all come to derby for different reasons but i like to think that the one thing we have in common is that we all enjoy our training time with each other. Whatever it is that keeps you coming to training, think of it, hold onto it because that is the foundation of your passion and it will be the encouragement to get you out the door and into the sports hall with your GRD. All the training for 2020 happens now. Dont let the darker days win. ♡
Third, attitude. Treat people how you would want to be treated yourself. Be respectful to one another. Be kind to one another. Thank your coach. Be constructive. Be the GRD you want it to be. Be something you are proud to be a part of. Be supportive. Enjoy yourselves.
