September 2019
September
Festival of the Sky
At the beginning of the month some league members went flyering around Cleethorpes Seafront during the Festival of the Sky to advertise our new skater intake!
Big thank you to all those who came to help. It was a very successful afternoon!
Zebras in the wild
All our referees this month have been out in the derby committee whistling all the penalties whilst reffing with Hulls Angels and Lincolnshire Rolling Thunder!
Big well done to TNT, Gorgonroller and Dragon Am Off for reffing their first games!
Shiny corner
Congratulations to Naomi Dixon on passing her level 2 minimum skills and a special congratulations to Gavtain America who has passed his level 3 and has become a fully fledge Brother!
Farewell
Unfortunately, in September we saw two of our beloved Grim Reavers leave the team. After a cracking year, they have left us on a high!
Our ArseNik has hung up her skates and retired from roller derby. We wish you all the best of luck with your new venture!
Our Charlotte Pimpernell has moved away to Liverpool for university and will hopefully continue her roller derby career with Liverpool Roller Birds. We can’t wait to see how you progress!
British Championship Playoffs
A couple members of the league headed down to Stoke during the month to watch the British Championship play offs. We got to watch the incredible Frost Spite play with Hulls Angels, who unfortunately did not make it to the semi finals but put up a tough fight, along with lots of other top quality roller derby games.
Lily Gaskell
The finally session of September we had a 5 hour bootcamp with the one and only Lily Gaskell. She showed us all her amazing techniques for offence, game strategies, blocking and jaming drills.
It was great to see Savage and Harlequim from Deathrow and Princess Punch from York join us too.
We hope you enjoyed the session and felt it was valuable. We will be practising some of these skills a training.
Presidents Comments
Back to it. Sundays started back in September and this is where the hard work begins for our 2020 season. Now is the time we need to come together, focus and train hard to excel. It’s time for the individuals to bring their 100% to training. Lets start as we mean to go on and keep attendance and attitudes high!
